About this treatise<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This treatise by Sayyid \u1e24ashmat \u02bfAl\u012b is in the Persian language and is one of the many philosophical works he authored. It highlights his mastery on the rational as well as revealed sciences. The discussion presented in this short epistle is of a deep philosophical nature and requires the reader to have some background in the sciences of kal\u0101m<\/em> and Islamic philosophy to fully comprehend the depth of the subject matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author of the treatise has answered a query about the \u1e25ad\u012bth of Al-\u1e6c\u012bnah <\/em>(i.e., The Clay) which has been transmitted and transcribed in certain Shiite \u1e25ad\u012bth literature. He discusses the issue of the Necessary Existence i.e., God and how\/what has emanated from Him is the most perfect thing that could manifest from His being. He also goes on to discuss the nature of good and evil and the issue of free will and determinism, essence, and existence etc. All of these are deep philosophical issues that have been discussed by philosophers for millennia. As a reference guide, in numerous places in this treatise, All\u0101mah Sayyid \u1e24ashmat \u02bfAl\u012b has quoted from the works of the famous Islamic philosopher, Mull\u0101 \u1e62adr\u0101. The title is Manj\u0101t al-\u1e62ud\u016br al-Am\u012bnah, means the refuge of secure or trusted issuance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the treatise is over a century old with no publication date mentioned and certain words being illegible, I have tried my best to render the work into English and have included footnotes and references where needed. The treatise is partially in Arabic and partially in Persian. Being fluent in both languages has allowed me to translate it to the best of my ability and I have tried to find the original sources for quotations and reference them where possible as well as explaining certain matters that I felt needed clarification due to the confinement of the English language. In some places, the Arabic I have included may have a few differences from the one in the text since the author is quoting another source, and when I went back to the source being cited, I found that the printed edition today reads a bit differently. Despite this, the differences are negligible and do not cause a change in the meaning and mostly involve either small errors of transcribing or small diacritical differences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
