After praise and blessings, the lowest of the servants of God, Sayyid \u1e24ashmat \u02bfAl\u012b, the son of al-\u1e24\u0101j Sayyid Jam\u0101\u02bfat \u02bfAl\u012b Khayrull\u0101hp\u016br\u012b states that the aided and refined Sayyid, the person of virtue and perfection, Sayyid Kh\u0101dim \u02bfAl\u012b Sh\u0101h \u1e62a\u1e25ib[1]<\/strong><\/a><\/em> Waz\u012br\u0101b\u0101d\u012b asked that it has not been established what the benefit to us is of the hidden Im\u0101m in his occultation. So, such a treatise should be written in which by rational arguments it is proven that it is necessary for there to be an Im\u0101m in every era and that the benefit from a hidden Im\u0101m is the same as that of an apparent Im\u0101m and not less than it. Therefore, when his persistence and insistence went beyond bounds, this person had no excuse but to accept the request and despite not being capable and not having the necessary means[2]<\/a>, I proceeded to write. This treatise is called Gh\u0101yat al-Mar\u0101m f\u012b \u1e0car\u016brat al-Im\u0101m and is arranged based on an introduction, two sections, one beneficial point (f\u0101\u02beidah<\/em>) and one supplement (tatimmah<\/em>). The introduction is on explaining the reasons for the difference of the views on the issue of Imamate and the exposition of the different views on the necessity for appointing an Im\u0101m. The first section is on arguments which the scholars of the Im\u0101m\u012byyah[3]<\/a> have exposited on the necessity of the appointment of an Im\u0101m in their books and works. The translation of these arguments has been done either verbatim or in summary. The second section is on the arguments which this lowly person has derived from wise philosophical principles, and which have been attested to. Along with these arguments, a\u1e25\u0101d\u012bth of the Prophet (\u1e63) and the pure Im\u0101ms (as) have been mentioned, and I am alone in explaining them. In the beneficial point, it has been explained that whether the Im\u0101m is apparent or hidden, it is equal. In the supplement, there are some beneficial points for having a hidden Im\u0101m which are proven from verses of the Qur\u02be\u0101n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n [1]<\/a> The term Sh\u0101h \u1e62a\u1e25ib<\/em> is sometimes used in the subcontinent to address Syeds<\/em> or those who descend from the prophets family, called shar\u012bfs<\/em> in Arabic.
